PITTSBURGH, PA - Sheriff William P. Mullen announces the apprehension of Freddie Knight, 39 years old, from Wall. Knight was wanted for failing to appear in court after an arrest for Aggravated Assault by Vehicle, Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury, Resisting Arrest and Fleeing and Eluding Officer. These charges stem from an incident that occurred in East Deer on February 3, 2012. The two victims, Tammy Roberts and Pete Gearhart, were standing on the sidewalk outside the Creighton Inn along Freeport Road when Knight drove up onto the sidewalk, striking them both. Gearhart, who was thrown on top of the hood of the car, smashed two six-packs of beer against the windshield as the car sped away. Roberts was severely injured had to have one of her legs amputated. Today, a bench warrant was issued for Knight and deputies immediately started to search for him.

This evening deputies along with East McKeesport Police searched Knight’s residence but were unable to locate him. These officers kept this residence under surveillance for several hours waiting for Knight’s return. At approximately 12:15 this morning, Knight was apprehended by deputies and police as he exited a vehicle in the 300 block of Grant Street in Wall. He was apprehended without incident. Knight is now being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond and he will appear before a judge later this week.
